We presently have a 3 1/2 year old female cat we are looking to adopt out to a new home. She is very loving and friendly. Please check out our adoption section of our website for additional information.
February is Dental Month. Now is a great time to inspect your cat and dog's breath, red gums, brown/yellow build up on the teeth, bleeding, drooling, missing or loose teeth, or a reluctance to eat their meals.
Catching teeth problems early will avoid more serious dental disease in the future which can lead to heart and kidney disease if left untreated. Early detection and prevention are key, so pay attention to those pearly whites.
During the month of February, you can fill out a ballot every time you purchase a bag of dental food for a chance to win a 6 month supply of flea prevention of your choice.
If your pet requires a dental cleaning, you can also receive a complimentary bag of dental food, a reuseable shopping bag, a ballot for a chance to win a 6 month supply of flea product of your choice and a detailed report card on your pets dental health.
If you are concerned about your pets oral health, please call and book an appointment for your loved one. Prevention and early detections are vital to your pets overall health.
In case of an emergency when we are closed, phone the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic at 468-0674.
We would like to inform our clients that when we have a candle lit behind our reception desk, this means someone has to say good-bye to a dear friend. During this time we would appreciate your respect and consideration.
November 25, 2009 The company that manufactures Caninsulin has released a product alert. The company or Health Canada has NOT issued a product recall. The product may not control blood sugar levels as effectively when it nears its expiry date. Internal medicine specialists still recommend this product to treat diabetes in dogs and cats. Although there is very little risk please monitor your pet for any changes in behaviour such as increased drinking, weight loss and lethargy. If you have any concerns/questions please call 1-866-683-7838.

Do you realize that Companion Animal Hospital carries complete lifestage food for both dogs and cats? We carry high quality food that is naturally preserved for young kittens and puppies to adult and senior/mature pets . We do carry specialized diets for pets with special dietary requirements. But it is also important to carry all lifestage foods for our clients as well. Sometimes the best medicine for a long and healthy life isn't medicine at all, it is good quality food for our pets lifetime. We have done $$ comparisons, and our research has shown that some food offered in pet stores and grocery stores actually may cost the consumer more for lesser quality food than those offered in the veterinary hospital. If you have any questions regarding your pets diet, do not hesitate to contact us.

With the Holiday and Winter season quickly approaching, we would like to offer some tips for keeping your pet out of danger and clear of many potential hazards.
Avoid food items that could cause problems for your pets. * Chocolate (milk chocolate, semi-sweet and bakers) *Fatty foods (roast, gravy etc...) * Onions, onion powder, garlic *Coffee (beans, grounds etc...) * Alcoholic Beverages * Composted items with moldy & spoiled food
Plants, such as lillies, holly, mistltoe and poinsettia's can be very toxic and very hazardous to your pets gastrointestinal tract.
Antifreeze is a very toxic and fatal product if ingested by your pet. Antifreeze has a very pleasant taste to pets. Unfortunately, small amounts can be very fatal. Thoroughly clean up any spills and store your antifreeze in tightly sealed containers in an area both pets and children can not access. If you think your pet has ingested antifreeze, contact your veterinarian immediately. Ice melting products can be irritating to your pets mouth, skin and paws. So be very careful when allowing your pet outdoors if you have recently used these products. Rodent killing agents, especially the ones that have a"peanut butter" smell, is also very toxic and fatal for housepets if ingested. We hope these tips will be helpful for you and your pets during the winter and holiday season.

Vaccinations have saved the lives of millions of cats. Before the days of effective vaccines, cats routinely died from panleukopenia ("feline distemper") and complications of upper respiratory (herpesvirus, calicivirus) infections. Newer vaccines are available to protect against feline leukemia virus infection, feline infectious peritonitis virus and other infections (chlamydia, feline bordetella, ringworm).
